HE4 marker – measurement in blood serum is useful in diagnosing ovarian cancer and monitoring its treatment. Remember! A normal level does not rule out cancer. Moderately elevated tumour marker levels may occur in non-cancerous conditions. Tumour marker testing has a supporting role and cannot replace a clinical examination.

Description

Due to its diagnostic properties, HE4 is useful for detecting ovarian cancer at early and advanced stages, assessing disease progression, monitoring treatment and detecting recurrence. HE4 is measured on its own as an initial test, as an alternative to Ca 125 or in patients with low Ca 125 levels, and also to monitor for cancer recurrence.

Measuring HE4 and Ca 125 together improves diagnostic sensitivity compared with either test performed alone and allows the results to be used in the ROMA algorithm to assess the risk of developing ovarian cancer. It is best to measure both markers, HE4 and CA125, and use the ROMA calculator to determine the level of risk with a high degree of confidence.

You should discuss the result with a doctor.

The waiting time for the result is: 2 working days
