Description

Parathyroid hormone is involved in regulating calcium and phosphate balance in the body.  It is produced by the parathyroid glands. It controls calcium and phosphate metabolism, acting mainly on the bones and kidneys. This hormone is also involved in the production of the active form of vitamin D. PTH measurement is used to diagnose disorders of calcium and phosphate balance and problems with parathyroid gland function.
