CA72-4 tumour marker (for gastrointestinal cancers (mainly stomach cancer) and ovarian cancer). Remember! A normal level does not rule out cancer. Moderately elevated marker levels may occur in non-cancerous conditions. Tumour marker testing is a supplementary tool and cannot replace a clinical examination.
Description
CA 72-4 is a marker mainly associated with stomach cancer, but its level may also be elevated in other gastrointestinal cancers and ovarian cancer. The Ca 72-4 test is used in diagnosis and disease monitoring, as well as to detect residual tumours after surgical treatment. Measuring CA 72-4, CEA and CA 19-9 together increases diagnostic sensitivity.
