Description

Infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria (acquired through ingestion) is common worldwide, and the presence of these bacteria is associated with gastrointestinal diseases. These bacteria are responsible for a large proportion of cases of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as chronic inflammation of the stomach lining. Numerous studies indicate a link between infection and the development of stomach cancer. The H. pylori test detects bacterial antigens in a stool sample. A positive test result indicates an active infection. The test can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
