Free PSA test (a prostate cancer marker). This test is used in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of prostate cancer. fPSA is most commonly used to calculate the ratio of free PSA to total PSA, which provides additional diagnostic information, particularly when total PSA levels are moderately elevated. When total PSA is elevated, measuring fPSA is also recommended. The results of these tests help distinguish prostate cancer from other conditions affecting the prostate and guide the decision on whether a biopsy is needed.

Remember! A normal level does not rule out cancer. Moderately elevated marker levels may occur in non-cancerous conditions. Tumour marker tests provide supporting information and cannot replace a clinical examination.
