Description

This test measures blood prolactin levels twice: a medicine (metoclopramide) is administered after the first blood sample is taken, and a second blood sample is taken after 60min. The test is used to investigate menstrual disorders (and associated female infertility) or to detect a pituitary adenoma.

How to prepare

Proper preparation for the test is essential for obtaining reliable results. Most tests should be carried out while fasting – i.e. without breakfast, between 7 and 9 am. For tests that include lipid and liver profiles, it is also recommended that you have a light evening meal by 6 pm on the day before the test. Full instructions →
