Lactic acid levels are also measured in sports medicine. Precise measurement before and after training helps optimise training plans. Another use of this test is the differential diagnosis of acidosis. There are many possible causes of a decrease in blood pH, such as the presence of large amounts of ketone bodies in patients with diabetes, respiratory failure, etc. In such cases, measuring lactic acid levels alongside other blood gas tests helps establish the cause of the disturbance.
