Gynaecological ultrasound (transvaginal) together with a consultation with a gynaecologist.

The gynaecological ultrasound is performed with a transvaginal probe protected by a disposable gel-coated latex cover. It allows assessment of the organs of the lesser pelvis (the reproductive organs and the lining of the uterine cavity, the body of the uterus, the cervix, the ovary and the pouch of Douglas).

In addition, transvaginal ultrasound is performed:

-in abnormal bleeding from the genital tract;

-in the diagnosis of lower abdominal pain;

-for menstruation-related complaints;

-for menstrual disorders (including absence of periods);

-to find the cause of infertility (as one of the first steps of diagnosis);

-when changes in the ovaries are suspected (polycystic ovary syndrome, cysts);

-to assess the menstrual cycle (ovulation);

-when malformations of the reproductive organs are suspected.

** Gynaecological (transvaginal) ultrasound is NOT an obstetric ultrasound (for pregnant women)!
